Research Carlo Alberto Chair

Dino Gerardi Appointed Carlo Alberto Chair

We are very proud to announce that Dino Gerardi, currently an Associate Professor of Economics at Yale University, will be joining the Collegio on January 1st, 2010, having been appointed to the Carlo Alberto Chair of Economic Organization and Scientific Innovation.

Dino received his Laurea degree from Bocconi in 1995 and his Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern in 2000. He has been at Yale ever since. He has published on top journals such as the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Economic Theory and Games and Economic Behavior. He has been invited to present his research in many prestigious Universities, including UC Berkeley, U. of Chicago, Harvard, London School of Economics, New York University, U. of Pennsylvania, Stanford.

His academic interests are in the areas of game theory and political economy. His research focuses on pre-play communication, strategic voting, mechanism design with costly information, and bargaining. Such research has obvious application to the design, analysis and regulation of governance institutions. Mechanism design, in particular, has been effectively used in several countries to devise economically efficient ways of reducing the output of polluting agents (e.g., the so-called "cap-and-trade" schemes). Therefore, Dino's arrival is the first step of the Collegio's strategic research effort on the economic, political and social aspects of the sustainable use of resources.
