Un'idea per l'Economia Policy Prize

Un'idea per l'Economia

The Collegio announces the prize competition "Un'idea per l'Economia" wherein European Union citizens under the age of 40 present their economic policy proposals with reference to Italian or international policy issues. The competition will be held twice each year, and the best proposal will be awarded Euro 5,000.

Proposals should not exceed 1,500 words, excluding charts and tables. Each proposal must include an abstract of 200 words that briefly describes the policy problem and the proposed solution.

Evaluation of the proposal will be based on the following criteria: (a) the policy relevance from either a microeconomic and/or macroeconomic perspective, (b) the estimated costs and benefits of the suggested proposal; and (c) the novelty of the proposal with respect to existing policies. The selection committee reserves the right to not assign the prize in the case where none of the proposals submitted satisfy the above mentioned criteria.

The members of the selection committee are: Giulio Anselmi (Director La Stampa), Tito Boeri (Università Bocconi and coordinator of lavoce.info), Pietro Garibaldi (Università di Torino and Director Collegio Carlo Alberto), Wolfgang Münchau (associate editor Financial Times and Director Eurointelligence.com), Domenico Siniscalco (Vice Chairman Morgan Stanley International and President Collegio Carlo Alberto) and Gianluca Violante (New York University).

Co-authored proposals may be submitted. The prize, accordingly divided, can be assigned to more than one proposal. The Collegio will post a selection of the submitted proposals on its web site.

Proposals must be submitted via e-mail to policy@carloalberto.org by May 30th, 2008 for the first semester prize, and by November 30th, 2008 for the second semester prize.

The winner for the first semester competition has been selected, notified, and asked to edit the proposal. Once the proposal is polished and ready for publication, the name of the winner will be announced and the proposal will be posted on the Collegio's web site.
