
Principi degli StudiThe Collegio Carlo Alberto has a long standing tradition of rewarding the best talents.
The halls of the Collegio host the 117 pictures of the Principi degli studi (literally: Princes of studies) from 1846 to 1971. Every year the Collegio awarded a Medal to the student who had obtained the best grades in all courses. Both as an honor and as a duty, his parents were asked to have a painter paint a portrait of the pupil to be displayed in the Collegio’s halls.
One of the most valuable portraits housed at the Collegio is the one shown here: the pupil Umberto della Beffa portrayed by the painter Giuseppe Pelizza da Volpedo.
