Education: Laurea in Law, Torino; PhD in Economics, Cambridge.
Domenico Siniscalco's academic career took him to Cambridge, Louvain la Neuve, Johns Hopkins, and back to the University of Torino, where he was Professor of Economics for more than 20 years.
He has also served on the boards of several research foundations and not-for-profit organisations in Italy and abroad, including the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences.
From July 2001 to September 2005 he served in the Italian government, first as Director General of the Treasury, then as Minister of the Economy and Finance. He also sat on the boards of listed companies, as independent director (Telecom Italia, ENI).
He is currently Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Morgan Stanley (London).
Domenico Siniscalco is author of academic books and more than 70 papers in industrial economics, privatisation, energy and environmental economics, which have appeared in refereed journals such as the European Economic Review, Journal of Public Economics and Journal of the European Economic Association. His latest volume "The Challenges of Privatisation", Oxford University Press, was published in 2004. For many years he was front page commentator of "Il Sole 24 Ore" and “La Stampa”.
