Thanks to increases in life expectancy, we can expect to live longer. Most of us would welcome an extra day in the week, so why do so many of us view the prospect of additional years with fear and skepticism?

The reason is simple: society is not currently structured to support long lives. We need substantial changes to our health system, economy, and financial sector, as well as in how we manage our careers, health, finances, and relationships. Instead of seeing longevity as a problem, we should view it as an opportunity.

Grazie all’aumento dell’aspettativa di vita, oggi possiamo aspettarci di vivere a lungo. La maggior parte di noi sarebbe felice di avere un giorno in più alla settimana, ma allora perché si guarda alla prospettiva di vivere anni in più con paura e scetticismo?

Il motivo è semplice: la società non è attualmente strutturata per sostenere una vita lunga. Abbiamo bisogno di cambiamenti sostanziali nel nostro sistema sanitario e nell’economia, così come nel modo in cui gestiamo le nostre carriere, la salute, le finanze e le relazioni. Invece di vedere la longevità come un problema, dovremmo vederla come un’opportunità.
