In an effort to make the world more fair and reduce the distortions of the past, many organizations have spent time and resources on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Despite good intentions, these programs have often failed to have the desired impact and have instead become an unnecessary bureaucratic burden. Why is this? Can backlash be avoided? How can equity be effectively promoted?
