Short bio

Olivier Bouin is Director of the Foundation/Excellence Laboratory “French Network of Institutes for Advanced Study”; President-elect of the European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities; Coordinator and Steering Committee Member of the International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP); Coordinator and Advisory Board Member of the World Pandemic Research Network – Assessing Human and Societal Impact of Covid-19.

He serves as Secretary-General of NetIAS, a network of 25 Institutes for Advanced Study in 16 countries in Europe; is a member of the Steering Committee of UBIAS, a global network of 45 university-based Institutes for Advanced Study worldwide. Other academic responsibilities include Member of the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Feltrinelli (Milan, Italy), of the Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities (Edinburgh, United Kingdom), of the Center for Advanced Study – Southern and Eastern Europe (Rijeka, Croatia).

He is the co-editor and co-author of “Europe’s Crises” (Polity Press, 2018) and of “Manifesto for Social Progress – Ideas for a Better Society” (Cambridge University Press, 2018), and co-editor of "Rethinking Societies for the 21st Century" (Cambridge University Press, 2018).
