Mathematics of “strange quantities”: The genesis of the K-gen distribution and its application for the analysis of income distribution and inequality
Abstract: Based on the Cambridge Element in Econphysics “The K-Statistics Approach to Income Distribution Analysis” of Clementi F, Gallegati M, Gianmoena L, Kaniadakis G and Landini S, this seminar presents the κ-generalized distribution, it clarifies the statistical properties of the model, assesses its empirical validity, and compares its effectiveness with other parametric models.
Topics include, the mathematical genesis of the distribution, the discussion of basic analytical properties, the interrelations with other statistical distributions as well as aspects that are of special interest in the income distribution field, such as the Lorenz curve and inequality measures.
